Cloud Data Architect

Role purpose

The Cloud Data Architect is based within the Technology Business Unit.

The role of the Cloud Data Architect is to recognize authority in data and analytical solutions. The data architect strategically advises and shapes requirements for enterprise data and analytical solutions and creates high-quality data designs and architectures in support of the business requirements 
The Data Architect accepts overall responsibility for the design of the data platform, including the technical infrastructure, performance considerations, storage repository selections and organization, data schemas, and domain model required to support the data ecosystem, as well as the development of best-practice standards, policies, and procedures.

Your Responsibilities will include

Develop, innovate and maintain the data architecture of the Cloud Data Platform that will drive various initiatives across the organization
Provide thought leadership with respect to sustainable data infrastructure, data design, data modeling and have a key understanding of the data domains across the Company
Collaborate with teams to build strategic data models that will help enable the achievement of business outcomes
Strong ability to synthesize and convey knowledge & information, as well as to facilitate learning and coach others in gaining specific competencies
Prepare accurate database design and architecture reports for management and executive teams
Oversee the migration/transformation of data from legacy systems to new enterprise data platform
Define data landscape for Vodacom SA as a baseline with the intent to streamline data duplication across the landscape. 
Define a data management lifecycle to manage data as a product across the organization. 
Define detailed data architecture landscape as a benchmark and maintain the evolution of data relative to the actual state. 
Reduce data duplication within  the analytics ecosystem
Improved DQ, integrity, and management of data across the full data management lifecycle

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

Matric / Grade 12 essential
Degree in Information Systems / BSc Computer Science / BSc Electrical engineering (or similar tertiary qualifications)
5+ years in data warehousing and ETL integration
5+ years experience with all aspects of IT projects from business analysis, architectures, system analysis, and design through development, testing, implementation, and production support (SDLC).
2 - 3 years leading an architectural development process and collaborate with application development teams, architects, and other members of the software development team.
AWS/GCP Certifications would be advantageous
 

Core competencies and knowledge:

Deep subject matter knowledge of data staging, data warehousing, data marts, and operational data stores, big data, and analytics as applicable to the telecoms business domain is essential
Experience working with high-volume data and file processing (real-time and batch processing).
Working knowledge of Modeling tools like ERWIN, Power Designer  and experience with Star Schemas, 3NF and Dimensional Models Data Insight & Analysis
Experience with modern data warehousing technologies such as Snowflake, Big Query, Redshift, Teradata, Abinitio, Cloudera, etc. 
Able to analyze complex use cases to model and interpret data through critical thinking
Advantageous
Big Data knowledge (Hadoop, Map Reduce, Spark, Drill, Kafka, etc)
Analytics: R Language and Python knowledge
Experience architecting and designing Big Data Solutions
