Head, Internal Control

Job Purpose

The Internal Control Officer will be responsible for implementing the internal control programs and conducting comprehensive reviews of organisational controls, operating procedures, and compliance with policies and regulations.  

Responsibilities

  • Review and appraise the soundness, effectiveness, and proper application of accounting and financial and operational procedures and controls.
  • Assess brand reputation, compliance, fraud, and financial risk to determine risk exposure on new and existing merchants and take an appropriate course of action.
  • Use business transaction reports, billing cycle reports, and investigative research tools to conduct financial and non-financial risk assessment of merchants as they are prospected, signed, and on-boarded by the Sales team.
  • Compile and issue reports detailing conclusions and providing recommendations for improvements. 
  • Ensure integrity of transactions and GL account in the company through daily review of the GL balance reports and other relevant ad hoc and standard reports.
  • Conduct ongoing monitoring of credit, fraud, and dispute/chargeback trends by merchants in order to detect changes and anomalies from expected performance.
  • Implement risk control recommendation of department/functional areas in accordance with timeline.
  • Develop and implement effective fraud detection and prevention strategies to mitigate fraud losses 
  • Actively participates in the development of internal control policies ensuring that they are relevant to TeamApt’s global business policies
  • Monitor and provide advice to management  to minimise risk resulting from poor internal controls risk assessment and Audit exceptions.
  • Identify areas of financial and administrative strengths and weakness and develop best practices internal control
  • Generate follow up reports to management on exceptions raised from the company’s operations daily activities review (call over)
  • Ensure adherence to all policies, processes and procedures
  • Ensure segregation of duties of staff members and physical safeguards and control
  • Change management control (to be part of system change management team to ensure compliance to change management policy at time of occurrence)
  • Implementation of new controls based on ERM risk assessment 
  • Carry out annual stakeholder’s meeting to update colleagues on internal control matters and that communication of key messages filters through
  • Protects organisations’ reputation by keeping information confidential

Requirements

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in financial services, banking, or risk management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or economics.
  • Solid understanding of fraud risk management practices, as well as practices for prevention, detection, remediation and reporting of fraud within financial institutions.
  • Outstanding problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex data, draw meaningful conclusions, and make holistic business recommendations.
  • Ability to approach problems in a quantitative and qualitative manner.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to build rapport with members of other departments.
