At Okra, we are building the tool that will usher in the 5th generation of FinTech in Africa. Our thesis is simply the fact that — financial innovation cannot exist without the right infrastructure (data). Essentially, how far the African Fintech industry can grow is intrinsically tied with the success of an infrastructure like Okra.

The role

It’s an amazing time to join Okra. As a Product Manager Payments, you will be responsible for making global money movement simple and programmable.You will work closely with our customers to better understand what they need. You will set the product direction, work with engineering, and design to build our payment abstractions and systems, and partner with the Business Development team to bring it to market.

Our ideal Product Manager has led technical products or large scale platforms, has an extreme attention to detail, concisely communicates complex concepts, and is equally excited about GSI, NSF, 99.99% stability, as well as beautiful product UX and API design. 

At Okra, product development is a collaborative effort between engineering, design, and customer-facing teams. You’d be joining a small but growing team of experienced Product Managers who have a track record of successfully building large-scale business and consumer products. 

You will: 

• Build the next generation of money movement products for Okra. 
• Utilize customer conversations to understand areas of market opportunity.
• Develop product concepts and collaborate with customers to iterate quickly on product design.
• Drive roadmaps, project plans, and clear product specifications that consistently deliver quality products.
• Deliver customer value iteratively, managing products through various launch phases and follow-on releases. Ensure high return on development capacity.
• Act as product area evangelist to build awareness within the organization.
• Ensure successful product launches by working cross-functionally with business development, marketing, operations, legal, risk, and engineering; build scalable processes to ensure your team consistently delivers quality.

What you’ll need: 

• You’re a creative product thinker who loves collaborating across the company with engineering, marketing, design and business development. 
• You have strong written and verbal communication skills with a talent for precise articulations of customer problems.
• You have experience managing technical software products from kick-off to ship
• A track record of pursuing self directed side projects, research, or open source projects. 
• You do whatever it takes to make your product and team successful whether that means writing a QA plan or hunting down the root cause of a user’s frustration
• An interest in changing the payments landscape in Africa.
