Senior Software Engineer (PHP)

The Role

You are an experienced software engineer that will join our team to assist in developing our ecommerce delivery services. Your focus will be on developing our core platform features and API’s. You will be involved in all aspects of the development from the initial specification, through to developing, testing, launching and supporting. You will measure your own development success by monitoring the operational efficiency of your solutions and the positive impact on business metrics.

Your responsibilities:

• Collaborate with product owners to design technology driven delivery solutions
• Develop new delivery platform features and extend our client API’s
• Apply foresight in solution design for the longevity of the platform
• Contribute clean, well-designed, performant, peer reviewed code
• Improve development processes and apply environment standards
• Focus on scalability and efficiency for high throughput services
• Track the latest technology trends to constantly improve our platform
• Constant consideration of the metrics driving your work
• Make sure your internal and external customers needs are met
• Have a keen interest in ecommerce delivery services and trends
• Work collaboratively with our engineers to be part of a high performing team

Requirements

Because we are a fast growing start-up you need to be able to work efficiently and expediently to achieve outcomes rapidly, cope with change, and have an entrepreneurial mindset. We are looking for someone that meets the following requirements:

• Minimum of two years performing professional software development
• A technology related Bachelor’s Degree (Computer Science, Engineering etc.) OR equivalent experience in the industry with a track record of delivering solutions.
• Solid knowledge of one or more PHP Web Frameworks
• Know how to build RESTful API’s and an awareness of other communication protocols
• Experience in working with relational databases such as MySQL and/or PostgreSQL
• Ideally experience in asynchronous messaging systems
• Experience in containerization and orchestration deployment (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Proficient in using development tools such as Github, Jira and following collaborative development processes
• Understanding of front-end technologies, such as JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3
• Linux skills for performing basic server administration and resource analysis
• Exposure to Cloud environments and infrastructure as code a bonus
• Participation in open source projects is a plus
• An interest in more than one language and the right tool for the job
• General awareness of technical trends and architectures
