Business Analyst

About Electrum:

Electrum is an exciting B2B tech company working with some of South Africa’s biggest household names. We love that the projects we work on touch the lives of millions of South Africans every day, making a real difference – whether that’s giving an aspiring businesswoman access to banking for the first time, or distributing government financial aid to thousands of students.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a business analyst to join our professional services team. For this role, you will engage directly with our customers to agree on and document requirements. You will also work closely with development team leads, product owners, and project managers so good communication and collaboration skills are essential. You will play a key role in helping ensure that the end product meets requirements by supporting requirement validation in the testing cycle.

We work using agile methodologies, so experience in writing traditional requirements documents for customers as well as user stories for dev teams is important. Together with an understanding of the SDLC in agile teams.

This role is a great opportunity for a Business Analyst to join a high-growth tech company, and grow with our business. You will have the opportunity to gain deep domain expertise in the rapidly developing payments industry and play a key role in mission-critical projects at some of South Africa’s largest corporates.

What your first 0-6 months would look like:

Within the first month you will be formally onboarded to all Electrum’s nifty practices, such as easy time logging and transparent emailing, and be immersed in the regular contact sessions of the professional services team. From month 2 onwards, you will start picking up some smaller projects; 6 months in you will be immersed into a development team and will be working independently on customer projects.

Requirements

What you’ll need:

  • At least 2 years experience as a business analyst or similar role
  • A university degree
  • Strong analytical thinking
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Team player
  • Attention to detail
  • Self-managing

Increase your odds by having:

  • A BA certification
  • Experience in the payments space
  • Experience working in agile development teams

Benefits

A good work-life balance is very important at Electrum. You know when your brain has switched off for the day and you need to go for a surf, but you also know when the code you have written is sloppy. At Electrum you will be expected to know when you deserve a surf and when you need to knuckle down and get the work done. For the more “knuckle down” days we make it worth your while with benefits such as:

  • Company getaways
  • Onsite gym and shower facilities
  • Daily cooked lunches and a stocked kitchen for the mid-day nibbles
  • A rad coffee station where you can practice your cappuccino foam art
  • Team socialising, hikes, getaways, and dinners
  • Understanding that if an emergency comes up, family comes first
  • A generous leave policy, starting at 20 days per year
  • Flexible work hours
  • A recreational area with foosball, table tennis and fatsaks that are perfect for naps

We have created a safe, transparent environment where:

  • We know mistakes happen, and that’s okay. We even have a 3 step approach to dealing with them:
  1. Tell everyone about it
  2. Fix mistake
  3. Tell everyone about it
  • You are responsible for your actions – both the successes and the failures
  • We talk openly about salaries and bonuses. At Electrum we believe it’s evident why some people earn more and others a bit less. It’s like being on a sports team where salaries are widely known.
