Head of Marketing & Communications

Stitch is a developer-first API startup with a mission to deeply connect financial systems with the wider world. We provide an API which allows third-party apps and websites to interact with their user's bank accounts in ways that unlocks the ability for companies across Africa to build innovative technology products quickly.

Creating innovative financial products is incredibly difficult today, and we believe that unlocking the way people interact with their finances starts with enabling developers with the tools and infrastructure needed to execute on their vision.

We are looking for a Head of Marketing & Communications who can help support our team by building out and professionalising our mission-critical marketing function.

In particular, we're looking for someone who can drive a multi-faceted communications strategy across a number of platforms: our website, Stitch's social media presence, formal press & media, and creative content marketing channels like blogs and video showcases.

The ideal candidate is creative and self-sufficient: as Stitch's first real marketing & communications hire, this person will be looked upon as a trailblazer for Stitch's public presence, using a number of tools at their disposal to ensure that the Stitch brand and offering is well-communicated.


  • Determine the high-level marketing strategy across various channels, including the website, Stitch's social media platforms (incl. Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.), and the Stitch blog
  • Define and lead Stitch's content strategy across various platforms, coordinating internally to build the voice and opinions of the Stitch team
  • Spearhead go-to-market strategies by working with marketing, product and sales teams to create and execute go-to-market strategies for new product launches.
  • Be the budget owner and lead for earned and owned media utilization, including (but not limited to) relationships and workflow with marketing agencies, public relations houses, and any media contacts
  • Be willing and able to plug in as an individual contributor at the start of the role, providing ad-hoc support to content production (e.g. for the blog) and messaging as required as the marketing function is being constructed
  • Grow and lead a formal marketing & communications team that simultaneously supports Stitch's brand and public image while also being one of the primary tools for inbound customer acquisition
  • Build out collateral that communicates the value of our product to various audiences (pitch decks, data sheets, demo videos etc), as well as support sales on how to position and effectively deliver our product messaging


  • At least 4-6 years in a senior marketing role
  • Leadership and organizational management experience
  • A track record of success in financial technology or a related technology start-up
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into value propositions
  • Rock-solid communicator and storyteller
  • Experience in a fast-paced or startup environment


  • Strong network and content knowledge in the local Fintech or Banking space
  • Interest in Open Banking
  • Experience working in B2B SaaS, API or Payments companies
  • Strong knowledge of customers and customer needs in various key markets - including South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana
  • Strong understanding of developers and what makes a good developer experience
