Role Purpose

The Specialist: Cloud Platform Engineer role based within the Technology Business Unit.

The role of the Specailsit: Cloud Platform Engineer is to design, plan, manage, support, operate and oversee the organisation’s cloud platforms, aligned to the activities prioritised as part of the EIT Cloud CCOE’s strategic enablement roadmap.
You will also assist with managing, automating, maintaining, monitoring and securing of all cloud platforms which include providing best practice guidance to consumers of the cloud service on installation, configuration, upgrades and, where applicable, the patching of cloud-based services and or applications. 
In addition, the candidate in this role is responsible for providing technical cloud expertise to team members and other technical/business areas.

Your responsibilities will include:

Enable the AWS services/capabilities as prioritized via the IT Cloud CCOE’s backlog. Ensure that these solutions stay current and meet organisational standards and supports our client requirements;
Managing the daily operations of our cloud platforms, which may include patching, security updates, and vulnerabilities remediation of the core services which enables these cloud services;
Developing / enhancing automation that enables management of our cloud environment in an automated manner; and
Developing / enhancing supporting documentation for processes and cloud automated tools.

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

Matric / Grade 12 is essential 
3-year Bachelor’s Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent qualification is essential
Relevant AWS Certification advantageous 
At least 3 years relevant work experience including the following:
- Working experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS (required), Azure and GCP (desirable)
- Experience with configuration management and automation tools such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Salt, Terraform, etc desirable
- Experience with Cloud-native architectures, including public cloud PaaS / IaaS, micro-services architectures, APIs will be an advantage

Core Competencies & knowledge:

Excellent analytical, technical, and problem solving skills, with high-levels of creativity
Experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure and GCP desirable
Strong time-management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple balls
Competent with either Ansible, Chef or CloudFormation.
Working knowledge of ephemeral infrastructure, horizontal scaling, self-healing architectures, service discovery, logging, monitoring and alerting
Knowledge of software development methodologies e.g. AGILE
Knowledge of software development lifecycle and incident management tools e.g. JIRA


The base location for this role is Cape Town
